Currently I am preparing to compete in Old Salem for my first time, and it is also my first time in the state of New York. I have really enjoyed my time here thus far and the horses feel like they are right on track. I have used this facility and tournament to prepare my horses and myself for the Spruce Meadows Summer Series starting in June. The competition in Old Salem is held on a beautiful grass field with many hills that really test the riders. The hills in this ring make it much harder to judge and measure your take off spit with the horses. My horses are off to a great start with my 8 year old mare Anaconda starting things off with a 5th place finish in the 1.40m speed competition. We are only 2 days into the show and I decided to test my new mount Plume de la Roque in the open welcome Grand Prix qualifier today. She jumped a great first clean round and ended up 10th out of 50 with a conservative jump off approach. I have only had Plume a month and this is our first competition début. I couldn’t be more thrilled with her; it looks like we are off to a great start. The horses have a day off tomorrow to train on the flat and then it’s Grand Prix day on Sunday with Plume and Doremi as my two contenders. I am looking forward to what Sunday has to offer!
